Finding credit is something almost everyone will do at some point in their lives. Maybe they need a new car, home improvements or even money for a home; we will all borrow money at some point. Loans and credit cards are the most common forms of credit that we will take. Some people find it difficult to get credit if they have a bad credit history.
The longer you have been working and living life to the full, the more chance you have of getting some sort of bad credit. Students can usually find credit quite easily as they very rarely have bad credit as they haven’t had time to build any up. Finding a credit card for students is what thousands of them do each year. The careful ones will use it for emergencies only but there are others who will max them out on partying and other useless things.
But I’m Not Here To Judge!
Most students who have good credit will immediately be given a card with a balance of up to $1000. The APR will vary depending on the particular lender you choose. It is of course still important to pay off your card each month, otherwise it will build up and you will just be paying off the interest and making no impression on your balance.
Parents should be able to teach their children how to deal with credit and finances before they leave home. If they don’t then there is a good chance that they might get into trouble at some point. It is easy to keep using a card that gives you money without realising it needs to be paid off!
When the card becomes maxed out, it is usually then that the parent receives the phone call asking for more money. So teach them young and prevent this from happening. You can do a search online for a credit card for students and compare the results to get the best deal.
